My START Internship at HOKO Design
By Melika Noroozi, 2025 Ignite Internship Winner
The time I spent at HOKO Design on my START Ignite Internship was truly amazing. It changed how I see work, and helped me to go beyond my school learning. I engaged in real-world tasks and developed many skills that are super important for my future career.
One of the best parts of my time at HOKO Design was getting to make and look at different charts and data. In school, these tasks often feel like just ideas. But here, they were a key part of actual projects. They helped us understand things like how projects were doing. This hands-on work not only made me better at understanding and showing data, but it also showed me how important it is for real-world analysis. Turning complicated information into clear pictures is a skill I know I’ll keep working on for years. This internship gave me a great start in seeing how information helps make good decisions, which is a main idea in any job. These are skills that will be really useful in my future career.
Besides learning practical skills, the people at HOKO Design were very supportive and helpful. From my very first day, I felt welcome and important. Everyone on the team was very friendly. This made me feel comfortable and confident to talk openly. It was great that I could always ask questions or for help when I needed it, and the team was always happy to share their time and knowledge. This kind of openness really helped me learn fast. It taught me how important it is for a team to work together and talk clearly. This is key for projects to go well and for everyone to feel good at work.
The Ignite Internship gave me real experience working in a professional place outside of school. It was very eye-opening. It wasn’t just about learning new computer programs or design ideas. It was about understanding how a creative office works, how client projects move forward, and how a team works together. I got a great chance to learn and use new apps and tools that are used in the industry. This really boosted my computer skills. These weren’t just practice exercises; they were real tasks that helped with ongoing projects.
Looking back, this week at HOKO Design was more than just an internship; it was a stepping stone. It gave me real-world experience in understanding data, thinking deeply, solving problems, and talking clearly with others. Even though the company was about architecture, the core skills I gained are very important for the ways of working in my future career. This experience helped me grow professionally in a supportive environment. I now feel more sure of myself, more skilled, and very excited about what comes next. I have real experience and a new sense of purpose. Thank you, START and HOKO Design, for this amazing opportunity!
